Colón and wife Julia suffer an RV accident
The Architect of Salsa, WILLIE COLÓN, and his wife JULIA COLÓN suffered an RV camper accident on April 20, 2021, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Willie and his wife were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, in Virginia, Sentara Norfolk is a specialized level one trauma hospital. The famed musician suffered head lacerations, which required 16 suture staples, as well as fractures in his cervical vertebra. He is in critical but stable condition.
Meanwhile, Julia had minor bruises and lacerations that were treated without major mishaps, and she and she were discharged from the hospital.
Willie is expected to be able to recover as soon as possible to be transported and treated by his medical team at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Colón is a recognized iconic composer, musician, and activist who popularized the salsa genre in the United States. He collaborated with notable musicians in the likes of Héctor Lavoe, Rubén Blades, David Byrne, Celia Cruz, and others. With ten Grammy nominations under his belt, he only received a lifetime achievement award from the Academy of Recording Sciences.
