BCR Lead Singer Dies Les McKeown Succumbs to Heart Condition

Les McKeown, the lead singer for the Bay City Rollers, succumbed to a heart attack.  He was 65.

His family announced the death in a statement on social media. The statement said he died at his home, but at the time they did not know the cause of his death.

The Rollers began attracting a fanatical teenage following only after Mr. McKeown joined in 1973, replacing the original lead singer, Nobby Clark.  The group formed in the late 1960s by Alan Longmuir.  The band's name came after they threw a dart at a map and it landed on Bay City, Michigan.

Beatle promoter Sid Bernstein was responsible for the Rollers' unprecedented success in the 1970s.  They were known for their catchy tunes and their distinctive tartan outfits.  Signed under the Arista label in the United States, a re-recorded version of Saturday Night with Les McKeown's voice, the group catapulted into stardom.

Our deepest condolences to his wife Peko and son Jubei on their loss.
