I HIT A BULLSEYE!
Lucy Ward released her debut album "Adelphi Has To Fly" on June 13th. |
And I sure did!
It was an afternoon in September 2010 when I was chatting with Andy Wilbury, and told me of his best friend.
As we kept chatting away, he said that she was beautiful, with an amazing voice, and an exceptional songwriter. I said "Andy, send me some material from hers, but let her know that I'm curious about her music". I had no idea what she looked like, nor that she was into folk music. I just had that hunch that it was going to be a nice surprise.
Andy immediately sent me a link of her video performing in one of the clubs on the Derby scene, and that's all it took. The next day I had her song on the playlist for my weekly broadcast, and introduced her to the listeners with this:
"Lucy Ward is an up-and-coming folk singer from Dorset, UK. With stunning good looks, an angelical voice, and great songs, Lucy is destined to reach stardom in no time".
In just a few months, Lucy released her debut album "Adelphi Has To Fly", produced by famed British folk artist Stu Hanna. Songs such as "Julia", "Bricks and Love", "The Fairy Boy", and "A Stitch In Time" shows the maturity and independence of this wonderful singer, confirming the statement I posted a few months earlier.
I received the wonderful news of her nomination for a Horizon/BBC Folk Music award.
What can I say? Was I right? Of Course! And please, do get the album...you won't be sorry.
And hey Lucy....Grats are in order <3
