Klaus Voormann goes for a Third Grammy
Graphic artist, musician, and record producer Klaus Voorman is up for a third Grammy Award; this time for Art Design of his 2010 album "Voormann and Friends - A Sideman's Journey".
Hey, but don't get the Box Set because it's beautiful...what makes it beautiful is its content; a CD with good old rock standards performed by Paul McCartney, Don Preston, former members of Manfred Mann, Max Bushkol, Bonnie Bramlet, and a very touching performance by Cat Stevens [Yusuf Islam]. Not only that the music is fabulous, it also contains a DVD with the Making Of, and a booklet of photos that will leave you speechless.
Now, if this is the first time you hear of Klaus, then let me give you a little bit of info: he is the very first Grammy recipient in the Album Art category for his design of the Beatles' classic album "Revolver". He received a second Grammy in 1972 for Art Design of "The Concert for Bangladesh". Also, Voormann is a former member of Manfred Mann (1966 - 1969). As a session musician, he performed on solo projects with Lou Reed, John Lennon, Carly Simon, James Taylor, and others. Ah! He's also a long time friend of Beatles' Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. Voormann has an association with the Beatles for 51 years. Yes! 51 years, I mean, think Hamburg, okay? And, I almost forgot, Voormann did design the Beatles' Anthology cover albums. Need I say more?
So, for those who read my blog and are discovering the Beatles for the first time, remember the name Klaus Voorman. And check "A Sideman's Journey"; you'll be smiling from beginning to end :D

Actually, one of the most notable tracks of Manfred Mann is "The Mighty Quinn", released in 1967. Klaus played bass for the Manfred between 1966 and 1969. :D
