Memories of the Camel

It's been a year since this page opened for cyberworld who are actually music and equipment junkies. The first blogs coincided with the passing of three great artists. Today is no different. The plans for its 1st anniversary were to provide with a few albums for downloading. Instead, H.A.P.P.Y. Radio is celebrating the memory of a dear friend and former business partner. He was known as FredProg or Camel throughout Amazon and other sites in cyberspace.

A music lover for all of his life, FredProg was keen to go anywhere to celebrate at progressive rock festivals in Europe, US and Latin America. He is famous for his many years as an advertising executive, rock promoter, and home entertainment "connoisseur".

When I met FredProg in the spring of 2000, I already had an idea of who he was; the founder of Audio Harmony, an Account Director for a world-established advertising agency, the man who brought
to Puerto Rico rock bands such as Saga and Shooting Star, and a part-time DJ for radio stations Alpha Rock, Fidelity, and WVID.

Many of us who knew "The Camel" remember him for his love affair with music. He built his own music room haven at his home, storing more albums and cd's than the Library of Congress. He made sure he had the latest audio equipment to enjoy the sounds of Camel, Caravan, Wishbone Ash, and other prog albums to the max. It's important to point out that FredProg accompanied his music listening with manchego cheese, Spanish ham, and the best red wine available to make the experience pleasurable. However, his emotions stirred and made him cry when he heard many do-wop groups like Dion and the Belmonts, The Platters and The Flamingos.

FredProg gave me a crash course on Progressive Rock.
I had no idea that many of my favorite bands like Yes and King Crimson are part of that genre, pointed out by FredProg, of course. Most of all, he was an eclectic man whose tastes were very exquisite; especially with his wardrobe and food. It's amazing that a man who was born, raised and named his birthplace of San Juan "home", allowed his destiny to journey to places that others wouldn't think of going. Probably, he wanted to have his adventures in his own way.

Above all, FredProg was a kind man loved by many, and his memory will remain in our hearts.

As I saw his obituary last night, I was pleased to read the headline: "buying a stairway to heaven". It could never be more appropriate for Fred. Although he never became a famous celebrity, he will party amongst the famous like George Harrison, John Lennon and John Bonham in a place called "rock-n-roll heaven."

And in lyrics I remember FredProg "In My Life, I Love You More."

Rock on FredProg.....Rock On!
